Music and Politics

They are coming out of the wood works. New artist, old artist, all want to put their political perspectives to prose. From Nas to Obama Girl, there's quite a few videos and tracks expressing their political view points. From professional to amateurs, every body wants to give their two cents. From Wyclef's "If I was president" to Pink's "Dear Mr. President", some are hits, some are misses and some are just plain sad. I'd love to get an idea about what you all think. Are any of them effective? Have some gone too far? What are some good ones and bad ones? We can expect to get more as the general election approaches.

Music and politics have always worked hand and hand

I believe that true music reflects what is going on or what should be going on. But the American public is fickle. Remember what happened to the the Dixie Chicks when they spoke out about Bush's war in the beginning? But recently I saw Pink perform "Dear Mr. President" and the crowd loved her and the song. I think at some point she was on the VH1 top 20 countdown. The Dixie Chicks suffered through death threats and people destroying their work. On some level I admire their statement more than that of Pink's (though I love the song and the singer) they were one of the firsts. As someone said of the Hillary Clinton bid for presidency, the pioneers tend to suffer the most. It makes it easier for those who come behind.
